Living in Tokyo offers many perks, but one of the more troubling aspects is finding rooms for family who are visiting from overseas. The good news is that there are good, safe, family-friendly hotels in Tokyo that offer excellent accommodations, nice amenities and are located within close distances of many attractions.
When looking for a hotel in Tokyo for family of 4, my girlfriend and I have compiled a list of what we believe are the best based on personal experience when bringing in our families from overseas. We have narrowed down our list with the emphasis on location as that is what most of our visitors really want in a hotel.
The 5 Best Family-Friendly Hotels in Tokyo
Asakusa View Hotel
The real treat of this hotel is the large rooms that easily hold four people. Plus, the location is marvelous and my girlfriend and I often stay in the hotel with our guests so we can go shopping and visit the nearby sites. It’s just a short walk to Nakamise-dori and Senso-ji Temple. If you want to buy snack and souvenirs, there’s a Don Quijote nearby which sells pretty much anything you can think of. The neighborhood itself is quite friendly and there is quick access to the Asakusa subway station if you want to reach other parts of the city. My girlfriend loved the amazing views of Tokyo Skytree and Mount Fuji can be seen on clear sunny days. I recommend you try the breakfast buffet at Asakusa View Hotel which my family found amazing with so many selections to choose from. It’s no wonder this hotel is so popular and if you plan to visit Japan in the near future, my advice to you is book early!
Hilton Tokyo Bay
You know this one is built to be family-friendly thanks to the official Disney theme that permeates the décor. There is also the monorail that connects the hotel to DisneySea and Disneyland which makes it perfect for families with kids, looking to visit these two remarkable locations. The staff here are excellent and rooms range from standard size that can fit 4 easily, up to larger rooms for 7. We’ve stayed here a couple of times before and have always requested a room facing Tokyo Bay which provides us with amazing views of the sunset. There are plenty of amenities, but my girlfriend and I prefer to stay here during the summer when the large outdoor pool is open. If your family’s agenda is to visit Disney then you should strongly consider Hilton Tokyo Bay as your first choice.
Hotel Rose Garden Shinjuku
This is a great hotel for families as it offers good rooms, many with twin beds and twin sofas. The amenities are also excellent, but it is the convenient location that my girlfriend and I really like about this hotel. There are convenience stores, coffee shops and numerous restaurants nearby in the Shinjuku neighborhood plus it’s located just a minute from the Nishi Shinjuku subway station. We received complimentary sweets upon arrival, which was a nice touch and the staff were very friendly. Hotel Rose Garden provided a quiet stay and the hotel itself is extremely safe and clean. The price point is suitable for travelers on a budget and I noticed that rooms were larger than the typical Japanese hotels that we’ve frequented before.
Khaosan World Asakusa Hostel
There are some large family rooms in the hotel and while many are designed for 3, there are some that sleep up to 5. All of them have private bathrooms, but the real advantage is that they are just a minute away from the Asakusa subway station which provides access to the city. You can even choose a room that offers a communal kitchen and laundry services for an extended stay. The staff at Khaosan World Asakusa are incredibly warm, speak English well and will surely direct you to the right places with their knowledge of the district. They offer free coffee, tea and also a nice massage chair, perfect after a long day of sightseeing. My girlfriend loved the Khaosan World bar, where you can have reasonably priced drinks and meet wonderful people.
Sotetsu Fresa Inn
This may be the best hotel for families on a budget as it provides ample rooms and enough amenities to make your stay a comfortable one. Staff are helpful and after check-in you’ll receive a bath gift pack which consists of facial wash, soap, bath salts and numerous other things. The famous Imperial Palace is a 15 min walk from Sotetsu Fresa Inn. My girlfriend and I often recommend this hotel because of its location, which is minutes from a subway location so you can zoom into Disneyland or the central part of Tokyo in about fifteen minutes.
The right hotel in Tokyo for family of 4 is easy to find, but my girlfriend and I recommend these five as being the best thanks to their location, sizable rooms and amenities that make them a comfortable place to stay.
