A trip to Tokyo will be incomplete without walking across the intersection at Shibuya Station. Whether you go there for shopping, or a short stay, during the day or night, the area is always packed with students, shoppers, commuters and couples. And when the lights turn red, traffic stops, and people surge into the intersection from all directions. The area has something for everyone and is a sight to behold.
Hotels You Should Stay at in Shibuya
Keep in mind that the best budget hotel depends mainly on your travel needs and wants. Saving money on hotels is never a bad idea as you can use this towards shopping and sightseeing instead. There are so many to choose from and keeping this short list was somewhat of a challenge. However, Japanese hotels have that perfect balance between exceptional service and great prices.
Here are our recommendations on cheap places to stay which we’ve frequented and hopefully you’ll get to try in your future travels to Tokyo.
1. Hotel Unizo Shibuya
If you are looking for luxurious accommodation with affordable prices, then check out Hotel Unizo Shibuya. Although the rooms are small for couples, it is the best choice for people who like immaculately clean and comfortable rooms. For our budget, this was a wonderful option. My girlfriend especially like the fact that we had a nice deep soaker bath in the bathroom.
Address: 4-3 Udagawacho, Shibuya 150-0042, Tokyo
2. Dormy Inn Premium Shibuya Jingumae
If you are looking for a place in between Harajuku and Shibuya, then book a room at the Dormy Inn Premium Shibuya Jingumae. They have laundry facilities and a free shuttle bus to Shibuya station. The breakfast buffet was delicious and free evening ramen also added to it’s appeal. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that Dormy offered free use of their bicycles and an excellent onsen (Japanese hot spring bath). We would return to this hotel for the amenities alone.
Address: 6-24-4 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0001
3. Sakura Fleur Aoyama
This is one of the best cheap hotels in Shibuya for couples because they offer low-cost double rooms. The rooms are one of the largest in Tokyo and the bed is more of a full size, instead of a queen that is often seen in Japanese hotel rooms. Free wi-fi is provided and the ambience of this hotel is nice with a touch of Victorian accents.
Address: 2-14-15 Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0002
4. Shibuya Tobu Hotel
This place is one of the best cheap hotels in Shibuya because of its location. Perfect if you need a bed to sleep after exploring Tokyo the whole day. Despite the overcrowded streets, Shibuya Tobu offers a quiet and tranquil rest. The hotel is close to restaurants, bars and a whole lot of shopping. If you decide to book here, and are a non-smoker, make sure to specify a non-smoking room, if preferred. The bed was comfortably large enough for both of us and we found the area very nice and felt safe wandering around after dark.
Address: 3-1 Udagawacho, Tokyo 150-0042
5. Hotel Mets Shibuya
During our stay in Hotel Mets Shibuya, we noticed that most of the guests were foreign tourists. The staff were extremely helpful, and the rates were affordable. Our stay included a very nice western style buffet breakfast. The room size was atypical but the bathrooms were suprisingly larger than other similar priced hotels. There is a Lawson nearby and you’re just a short stroll away from the famous Shibuya Crossing. We’ve booked here a couple of times and its location is one of the things we love about the hotel.
Address: 3-29-17 Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0002
6. Shibuya Granbell Hotel
Shibuya Granbell Hotel is one of the hotels we stayed at when looking for a place near the main attractions of Shibuya. The staff are extremely professional and are willing to help with anything from giving directions for shopping or sightseeing, to restaurant reservations. An overnight stay comes with breakfast, a choice between Western or Japanese.
Address: 15-17 Sakuragaokacho, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0031
7. Sakura Hotel Hatagaya
I spent a night with my girlfriend at the Sakura Hotel Hatagaya. The location was great as it was in walking distance to the Station. We noticed quite a few nearby restaurants and a Family Mart convenience store was at our doorstep. The place was tiny but it was worth it, considering the price of the room. The best thing about Sakura is that it provides easy access to all parts of Tokyo.
Address: 1-32-3 Hatagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo 151-0072
8. Shibuya Tokyo REI Hotel
The rooms in this hotel are small and affordable, but if you’re anything like us, we’re out of our room all day taking in the sights, so size is not an issue. It’s a very central and convenient location in the heart of Shibuya. The staff at the counter is friendly and knows how to communicate in English, which makes it easier to converse. They have free Wi-Fi and plenty of vending machines for late-night Japanese snacks. Accessibility to entertainment, shopping, restaurants and sights is what makes this hotel inviting.
Address: 1-24-10 Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0002
9. APA Hotel Shibuya Dogenzakaue
This hotel has the typical small rooms found in other hotels around Tokyo and probably the smallest one we stayed in. It makes up for this by being conveniently situated near Shibuya Station, which is a plus for people who want to stay right in the middle of the action. The rooms are bright, comes with TV, free Wi-Fi and a minifridge. Just a quick note for travelers that if you have lots of luggage, there is a stairs overpass that you have to traverse to get to the hotel.
Address: 20-1 Maruyamacho, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0044
10. Shibuya Creston Hotel
We booked here in the summer time and the AC worked great. It is recommended that you take a taxi to the hotel if carrying a lot of luggage. The hotel offers a convenient stay at a reasonable price and is just far enough away to avoid the constant noise of the city. We had a nice romantic stroll in Yoyogi Park which is 5 mins away, and Meiji Shrine and Harajuku are also within walking distance.
Address: 10-8 Kamiyamacho, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0047
These are the best cheap hotels in Shibuya based on our experiences. Some of the things they have in common are affordability, location, and friendly staff. Check this list the next time you are going to visit Tokyo with your girlfriend.
