My Tokyo Disney Resort Experience
I decided to take my girlfriend on a visit to Disneyland in Tokyo when we went for a recent business trip. I figured, it may not be the most romantic spot, but it will make us both laugh and hold each other tight during those scary rides. It was sure to be a win-win for us as a couple. What could be more exciting than checking out this famous amusement park together?
Most Fun Rides at Tokyo Disneyland
We really loved the following 5 rides at Disneyland Tokyo, and I think you’ll love to go on them with your sweetheart, as well.
Just like its counterpart in the US, this ride is contained in a gorgeous dome that has been lit up. The ride seats 12 people per rocket and lasts for about 3 mins. This ride through the galaxy was speedy and it felt much shorter than a few mins. Long lineups are expected and the smart thing to do is to grab a Fastpass here if it’s available.
The ride goes fast, and makes it seem as though you are taking a spaceship off into outer space. The re-entry tunnel was surprising and took our breath away. This was so much fun, since I was infatuated with astronauts when I was younger. The view is breathtaking and really made the whole trip that much more special for us.
Big Thunder Mountain
Do you want to feel as though you are on a runaway train? This is truly the best for people who have big imaginations. You will zig-zag along at high speed in a rocky desert, through canyons and an abandoned mine. We felt like we were traveling back in time. Even though the coasting speed was not as fast as other rides, it was just right because there were a lot of little details that we would’ve missed.
My girlfriend and I caught this ride in the morning and when we passed by Thunder Mountain in the afternoon the lineups were unbelievable. If you have time at the end of the day, you can make a second pass at Thunder Mountain as rides always feel different at night.
This is considered to be one of the best rides in all of Disneyland. However, it has audio that is only in Japanese. I didn’t understand a word but my girlfriend tried to explain it to me afterwards. She told me I didn’t need to understand the narration to enjoy the ride and she was right.
On this ride, you take a trip through a creepy house with ghosts and other spooks. It’s not a particularly scary ride but visually fascinating. Check out the Haunted Mansion at night when it’s not as crowded as in the daytime. There are also some funny and surprising elements throughout. My girlfriend loved to grab onto me tight as we went through twists and turns of the mansion.
By now, you may be wondering how many of these rides have “mountain” in the title. This one really lives up to the name and it’s known for being a popular faster ride experience. Do not miss this thrilling ride with the climax being the huge drop into the briar patch. It is a huge waterfall ride that follows the tricks of the cartoon character, Brer Rabbit. It is considered to be one of the wettest and steepest rides at Disneyland Tokyo.
You will laugh and the sheer drop is sure to make your breath catch, but you and your love surely will have fun together. If time is running out and you still haven’t tried Splash Mountain, then do not wait in line. Instead head to the Single Rider lineup which will get you on the ride within 15-30 mins and bypass the hours of waiting. My girlfriend and I wanted to ride together so we decided to wait and the Brer Owl kept us entertained while standing in queue.
This boat ride into a tropical rain forest is full of beauty. There are waterfalls, exotic wildlife, and lush greenery that provide the perfect romantic backdrop. Just float your way down river and enjoy each others company. The animation effects are awesome with the lions, hippos and piranhas just out of reach. It takes about 9 minutes and the whole time is incredibly enjoyable.
At times it felt like we were being hunted by snakes and native tribes. The best part about this ride though was that our guide was so animated that his over-the-top reactions would make my girlfriend laugh out loud sometimes. I didn’t understand a word he said but I still thought he was rather interesting and funny. I’m sure that the others agreed as they were giggling incessantly.
Pooh’s Hunny Hunt
It’s one of the most popular rides in Fantasyland that will keep you spinning, stopping, reversing and bouncing in all directions. Each honey pot seats 5 people and will keep you entertained while visiting the world of Winnie the Pooh. What’s interesting is that each pot seems to move seemlessly with each other with no tracks or rails to guide it. Pooh’s Hunny Hunt is exclusive to Tokyo Disneyland resort and it’s such a great ride that you can even find a honey flavored popcorn to accommodate the theme.
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue
Star Wars fans rejoice as this 3D motion simulator ride was made for you. Upon entering this ride we were given 3D glasses, pre-flight instructions and were told to strap into our seats. This ride lasts 4.5 mins and although we were not really moving anywhere, it felt like we’re traveling at high speeds through the galaxy. It’s a captivating attraction where you can experience 50 unique story combinations which will keep you coming back for more. Star Tours is an awesome ride that’s fun for the whole family.
The food and character merchandise offered at Tokyo Disney are tailored to the Japanese market which we found to be wonderfully entertaining. I’ve never tried popcorn that was flavored with black pepper, curry or soy sauce before. The rice cakes shaped like Mickey Mouse were also delicious. This Disney Resort is refreshingly unique enough that it’s different than any other theme parks that I’ve been to. Do not forget that Tokyo DisneySea is right around the corner and that comes highly recommended as there’s only one of it’s kind in the world. All in all, this was a memorable visit to Tokyo Disneyland. Take note of these top 5 rides at Tokyo Disneyland for your next big date, and you won’t go wrong.
