You can’t go wrong when it comes to buying toys in Tokyo thanks to the myriad of shops in the city. Tokyo has the reputation of being the best place in the world to purchase toys and my girlfriend and I put that to the test. In our shopping travels, we managed to narrow down the list of the best toy shops in the city. It was a real pleasure for the both of us to visit some of the most unique shops that offer great selections of unique toys and gifts.
Toy Shops in Tokyo
We couldn’t visit them all in one day, but did take enough time from our travels to see what all the stores had to offer.
Akihabara Radio Kaikan
If you are like me and love plastic models, this is the store for you. My girlfriend bought me some great plastic figures and I returned the compliment by purchasing her a few vintage items for her collection. There are even some rare otaku toys that can be found amid the 10 floors of this remarkable store. This is really a collection from over 25 stores that you cannot miss if you love toys. It’s certainly one of the most well-known landmarks in the Akihabara district.

Hakuhinkan Toy Park
Toy lovers rejoice! There are multiple floors here with a massive selection and the cool part is that the majority of toys are Japanese. If you are a Ghibli fan then this shop is definitely worth your time. The great part is that if you have kids, tons of toys are available for them to try before making a purchase. You can find this store in Ginza and it is hard to miss if you are like my girlfriend and a fan of Licca-chan (a kind of American version of Barbie). She shopped in the store while I went to the fourth floor and played some slot car racing. This is a marvelous store that offers so many toys at reasonable prices and is one of the best spots to shop at.

They try to feature characters loved by everyone from kids to adults. You can find the stores in Odaiba, Osaka, and Kita-Senju, it is the Omotesando branch that is truly special with five floors of great toys to choose. This toy shop is like a theme park composed of limited-edition products and specialty collectibles. Couples will love to shop here also as they carry phone accessories, headphones and personalized USB sticks just to name a few. The convenient location keeps us coming back as it’s only a few minutes away from Omotesando Station.

For over fifty years this four-story shopping center has been the home of many great collectibles, including anime and manga. This place is still well maintained considering the age. It’s a good second hand store to find some rare otaku items as well as vintage products. You can find a comprehensive collection of new or used Transformer collectibles here and is a must see for all things anime related. We also strolled around the supermarket and had some snacks at the basement eateries. My girlfriend was a bit disappointed that there were not many toys, but I was very pleased that it offered so many great vintage items.

You might get lost in the six floors of action figures, baby toys, and even toy guns that this remarkable toy store offers. There are also board games, radio-controlled devices, puzzles, magic tricks and party favours sold here. I was awe-struck in the famous toy maze thanks to the huge number of selections that my girlfriend had to pull me away from. You can start buying so many items that it boggles the mind. Highly recommended to stop by this store near Ueno Station.
