There are a lot of reasons why our friends visit Tokyo and shopping is high on the list. The advantage my girlfriend and I have in living here from time to time, is having the ability to shop at so many outlets that offer discount prices. It works even better for those coming in from overseas because of the tax-free options that they enjoy.

How to Find the Right Shopping Outlet in Tokyo

It didn’t take long for us to write down the ingredients for what makes the best shopping outlet in Tokyo. So, after several excursions with friends and family we offer a list of some of the best and why they are the ones you should visit if you find yourself in Tokyo.

5 Best Tokyo Outlet Shops

Grandberry Mall:

My girlfriend says that this mall reminds her of being in Southern California, especially on sunny days. There are four sections to this mall and you can find several excellent restaurants and cafés to grab a quick bite before enjoying some excellent shopping locations. It’s also got a movie theater which makes the trip well worth it if you want to catch the latest flicks. Granberry is also great for a family outing as there are toy stores and attractions for kids. We couldn’t help noticing how many dog lovers were walking their dogs at the mall!

LakeTown Outlet:

It certainly impressed my girlfriend that this is the most environmentally-friendly outlet shop in all of Tokyo. We are surrounded by nature and the shop itself feels like we are way out in the countryside when in truth we are very close to the city. It seems small at first with only two floors, but they are packed with items from all over the world. We easily spent the whole day here exploring the stores and having lunch at the excellent food court. Laketown is a great place to take a date as couples can enjoy a romantic stroll in the gorgeous park surrounding the lake in-between shopping.

Mitsui Outlet Park:

You’ll see a lot of chain stores in this park, but the selection is fabulous thanks to the nearly 250 stores that occupy the area. They’re Japan’s largest outlet mall and features a variety of local brands for you to choose from. The nice part about this outlet is that it is easily accessible by train and about 40 mins away from Tokyo Station. There is an excellent selection of Japanese and Western brands that you can find for low prices, especially the footwear and clothing stores which offer some real deals.

Shisui Premium Outlets:

This one opened in April of 2013 and my girlfriend and I have only been here once, but boy we were impressed. There are about 180 shops here filled with brands from around the world. However, what makes this a favorite stop when we have visitors coming in from the States is that it is located near the Narita Airport and they offer some good deals for travelers. Before you shop, remember to present your passport at the Information Center to receive exclusive free coupons offering extra saving in addition to the regular discount prices. Opening hours are 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm.

Venus Fort:

Although you will not find the typical open-air or tented shopping outlet like many of the others in the area, the atmosphere is wonderful inside and you get to enjoy some good savings. This is more a hybrid shopping mall that has outlet shops filling the vacancies normally occupied by standard retail stores. However, the third floor offers Beams Outlet, Levi’s, and Puma where I like to get my shoes. My girlfriend prefers the Moussy and Zara stores. Of course, what really makes this one special is the gorgeous Venetian themed interior along with the low prices.

When it comes to finding the right shopping outlet in Tokyo, you cannot go wrong with these five choices. My girlfriend and I have agreed that these selections are the perfect place to begin your Tokyo shopping.
